Steele Wines - Exceptional Wines From a Great ManThose who have not had the honor of meeting Jed Steele, you need to start selling Steele wines. This man is a giant of a man, in stature and just down right a hell of a guy. I never met anyone as dedicated to his followers and supporters than you will met, than Jed Steele. Jed opened his winery in 1991, but was in the California wine business for longer than most of us have been around. In these years, he has perfected his philosophy and winemaking skills. With his relentless attention to detail, I was helping at the winery this year, he called several times during the day to get updates on how the wines were progressing while he was away on business. Well, now you know how I feel about this man, let's talk about his wines. The Steele crew produces a large array of individual wines along with custom crush wines for other people in a relatively small winery. This shows the attention to detail that Jed and his staff to do such a great job on their wines as well as others. Steele wines are broken down to four different labels, Steele, Shooting Star, Stymie, and Writers Block. Shooting Star, a second label, name comes from Jed's name as well; Jed Tecumseh Steele, named for the great Indian chief born under the "Shooting Star" or "Crouching Panther". Although many of the Shooting Star wines could have the Steele label status, they are conservative in determining which wines will carry this label. Wines of Shooting Star; Chardonnay Santa Barbara, Chardonnay Carneros, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Aligote Washington, Barbera Lake County, Cabernet Sauvignon Lake County, Merlot Lake County, Syrah Lake County, Zinfandel Lake County, Blue Franc Washington State, Pinot Noir Santa Barbara, Pinot Noir Sonoma, Pinot Noir Mendocino, and Black Bubbles. Writers Block is a collaboration between Jed and his son, Quincy. They found small lots with great qualities, and decided to come up with a special label. Quincy was in charge of coming up with the name, and he got Writers block- Shakespeare. Jed and Quincy have a passion for Cabernet Franc, Petite Syrah, Rousanne, Pinot Noir, Grenache, Syrah, Zinfandel. Winery is located in Lake County, at the old Konocti Winery, between Lakeport and Kelseyville. Located on Highway 29 about an hour driving time from Calistoga. This winery is located near the Konocti mountain, hence the name of the past winery, and is on the Steele label. Steele Wines' largest production (two thirds of their production) are, in order:
