Welcome To The Gastronomical Adventure
|
The Springs, currently Colorados second largest city, by population, hosts NORAD, Peterson Air Force Base, Fort Carson, and The Air Force Military Academy. The Springs also boasts no less than ten Universities and special schools including Colorado College (CC) and the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (UCCS). Factor in The Broadmoor Resort destination which has been awarded the Mobile Five-Star rating for 48 years in a row, and you can get an idea of how eclectic the food and beverage scene is in The Springs.
Colorado Springs, and neighboring Manitou Springs, has recently experienced a surge of talented Chefs and Bartenders who are continually trying to outdo one another. This has the fortunate side effect of raising the bar, to unprecedented heights for the food and beverage industry in both communities. From fine dining to bar burgers, local restaurants and bars are pulling out all the stops to be the best there is at what they do.
The downtown area of Colorado Springs, offers the diner and reveler the opportunity to sample a wide variety of fare. Nestled among the hot nightclubs, and martini bars you can find upper scale dining such as Mackenzies, and the Famous. If you are looking for some light fare that wont weigh you down The Metropolitain, Nosh, and The Warehouse all offer choice tapas selections. Looking for something a little more international? The Downtown area also boasts no less than two Chinese restaurants, two Japanese restaurants, two Italian restaurants, and two Irish restaurants. That is all in addition to the variety of pubs and clubs that offer traditional American eats.
Manitou Springs offers the more adventurous patron the chance to sample what has become known as Colorado Cuisine. Both the Briarhurst Manor Estate and The Craftwood are locally renowned for their unequaled fine dining Colorado game dishes. The Warehouse, located downtown, has also started to incorporate fresh Colorado game into many of their dishes.
The Northeastern part of Colorado Springs has seen an explosion of development that has bolstered the success of The Promenade Shops at Briargate shopping center. You can find some of your more familiar corporate restaurants here such as Champps, Biaggis, and P.F. Changs. Just down the road is the newly opened, and privately owned Plate World Cuisine, which has hit the ground running with an outstanding reputation for service and food quality.
The South/Southwest portion of the Springs is no less active. The Blue Star has been continuously recognized in Wine Spectator magazine, and in 2002 the Denver Post awarded The Blue Star Burger, the best burger in the state. Right behind The Blue Star you will find Edelweiss German Restaurant who for over forty years has been serving up some of the finest in Old World German dishes. Further south, you can find Walters Bistro which offers contemporary American cuisine in a relaxed fine dining setting. Steer yourself almost due west and you will come upon The Broadmoor. The Broadmoor offers you the choice between fourteen different eateries; everything from English style pub, to classical fine dining.
For both the local community and the visiting tourist, Colorado Springs and Manitou Springs offers anyone with an appetite a seemingly endless array of choices, to curb their hunger pangs, and quench their thirst.
